The “Biola” in Biola University’s name stands for Bible Institute of Los Angeles, although today it is much more than just a theological school. Serving over 5,000 students, Biola offers forty undergraduate majors across six colleges—of business, education, psychology, intercultural studies, arts and sciences, and theology—as well as many degrees at the master’s and doctoral levels. Known for their efforts to develop spiritual leaders to complete the evangelical Great Commission, the Biola Student Missionary Union is considered the largest student-run missions organization in the United States. The university also has a hand in the publication of quite a range of influential media, including Philosophia Christi, student newspaper The Chimes and creative arts journal The Inkslinger. The arts are prominent here, too: a pep band and various ensembles complement rotating exhibits at the Earl and Virginia Green Art Gallery. The BU Eagles even compete in seventeen varsity sports, from tennis and golf to swimming, diving and track. Few schools can match Biola University for excitement and commitment to creating a spiritually powerful collegiate experience!
