California State University Fullerton, or CSUF, is a school of firsts. It is the first and only institution in its state to offer a Master of Science in nursing, it was the first in Orange County to establish a Greek system (in 1960), and to honor its mascot, Tuffy the Titan, it held “The First Intercollegiate Elephant Race in Human History” in 1962 (complete with 15 real elephants!) But its eight colleges, 109 degree programs, 38,000 undergraduates and 5,000 graduate students are about much more than these blips in time. CSUF’s dance team, who captured their 15th championship title in the Jazz category in 2016, has achieved notable fame; the Fullerton Arboretum transports all who enter into a parallel, plant-rich world; and its official designation as both a Hispanic- and Asian-American Serving Institution cements its reputation for inclusivity and diversity. Since 1957, CSUF has indeed been living out its motto to a tee: “Voice, Truth, Life.”
