The Central School of Practical Nursing, located in Norfolk, Virginia, offers eighteen-month, two-stage academic programs to about 40 students, to prepare them for licensure as Certified Nursing Assistants. Because of its close affiliation with the Norfolk Public School system, regional high school seniors often enter the program early to get a jump on the competition and earn advance experience as nurses. At less than $7,000 for both in-state and out-of-state students, tuition here is unusually affordable for a healthcare-focused institution, and as many as 83% of students receive some form of financial aid. Since CSPN holds classes only every other day of the week, it’s a great place for adults to mold classwork around their existing careers and lives. Via its parent organization, the Norfolk Technical Center, CSPN’s Statement of Philosophy promotes a “mutual spirit of cooperation” that helps each and every student achieve his or her maximum potential!
