Founded in Houston, Texas, in 1976, the College of Biblical Studies may be young, but it’s no slouch in keeping up with the pack. Since it focuses on serving inner-city minorities, over two-thirds of the student population here (about 1,400) are either black or Latino; CBS is also one of few schools to offer an associate’s degree taught entirely in Spanish. Other program offerings include B.S. degrees in Biblical Studies with a wide variety of possible minors--pastoral ministries, Christian leadership, and women’s ministry among them--as well as counseling certifications and a 4+1 program that allows a bachelor’s and master’s to be completed in just five years. Students enjoy a variety of resources at CBS, including comprehensive libraries and a spiritual blog, where recent posts have encompassed such engaging topics as “The Concept of New Testament Love” and “The Matrix of Sin.” When it comes to a pioneering world-view and inclusive love and service for all human beings, few institutions of higher learning can match the College of Biblical Studies.
