Named after the mountainous Northern California county in which it lies, the College of the Siskiyous offers its 2,400 students coursework in over 40 distinct and intriguing disciplines, such as welding, early childhood education and justice administration. Student life is vibrant here, with a large percentage of the enrollment active in at least one of about 30 on-campus clubs, which cover everything from chess and comic books to psychology and medieval culture. The Screaming Eagles also compete within the Golden Valley Conference in a variety of sports, and the arts scene can’t complain, either: COS performs a musical each spring (March 2016’s Urinetown, for example!) And when it comes to faculty assistance, COS’s financial aid officers and career counselors are just a phone call or email away, ready to help. For a well-rounded collegiate experience where students are never treated like numbers, it’s hard to beat College of the Siskiyous.
