Established in 1976 as a merger of two other schools, the College of Staten Island today serves about 14,000 students and offers degrees at all academic levels, from two-year to doctorate. With experienced faculty and in-depth coursework, CSI has earned the designation of being one of the Top Public Colleges in the Northeast, according to U.S. News and World Report. It is also proud to have one of the most scenic campuses in the state, complete with sixteen commissioned sculptures and a variety of plant life so immersive and beautiful that CSI has been called “a rural oasis in an urban setting.” A domed astrophysical observatory, an advanced bio-imaging facility, and a 77,000-square-foot recreation center are just some of the impressive resources students can access here. And there’s plenty to do, too, such as singing in the CSI Music Revue, volunteering to make the campus more sustainable via the Green Thumbs club, or putting pen to paper with A Reason To Write. In fact, participation in clubs is so valued here that CSI designates two block hours per week as “club hours,” purposely devoted to activity outside the classroom! The College of Staten Island takes the best New York City has to offer and uses it to prepare its students to face the entire world.
