Established in 1965, Haywood Community College is a public community college located in Clyde, North Carolina. When the school first started operations, it had 39 students and a single program of study. It has since grown to offer associate, certificate, and diploma degrees in over 50 majors, such as cosmetology, welding technology, and nursing, to name a few. HCC cater to over 7000 students, of which more than half are enrolled through HCC’s continuing education, adult basic education, GED preparation, occupational courses, and community service programs. The class sizes at HCC are small enough to ensure individual attention, but the student community is large enough to foster diverse networking and friendships. The campus is notable for having a working gristmill constructed by students. Although Clyde is a small town, students can head over to Asheville, just 25 miles away for a night of fun and revelry. The city is also home to the largest active archive of weather data in the world.
