With a history dating back to 1925, Independence Community College, as the name suggests, is a public community college located in Independence, Kansas. The intriguing college logo of a pirate draws your eye, and you invariably end up hoping to uncover hidden meanings in its slick lines. ICC offers certificate and associate degrees in traditional areas such as Computer Science, Cosmetology, and Accounting, as well as more specialised programs like playwriting and theatre technology. An online campus is also in place, for the convenience of non-traditional students. With about 1200 students making up the student body, it has a significantly diverse population. Common student activities include gathering at The Anchor, the student lounge, join clubs & organisations, drama/theatre, and the student run publication – The Buccaneer. ICC is notable for having an impressive collection of original manuscripts, press clippings, personal books and recordings of playwright William Inge.
