Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis, or IUPUI for short, as a result of a 1969 merger of two extension campuses, represents a young and fresh approach to higher learning in the twenty-first century. Where some university faculties seem to focus exclusively on graduate-level research, IUPUI’s teachers were ranked #16 in the nation by Forbes in 2015, in a measure specifically designed to gauge institutions’ commitments to high-quality undergraduate instruction. IUPUI offers the only School of Dentistry in Indiana, as well as 17 other schools, each with a distinct focus designed to help its 22,000+ undergraduates and more than 8,000 graduate students find their ideal vocation. And when they feel they need to make an even bigger difference in the world, the Jaguars simply reach out: Jagathon, an annual dance marathon event, has raised over $172,000 for nearby Riley Children’s Hospital since 2013! IUPUI also offers over 700 student organizations to become involved with, ranging from the Energy Club and the Gamer’s Guild, to dozens of Greek houses, special-interest groups and leadership-development groups. Around every corner, IUPUI provides the best of two different worlds.
