Jarvis Christian College near Hawkins, Texas has been a historically African-American institution since its founding in 1912, serves about 500 students each year, and is closely affiliated with the Disciples of Christ church. Its bachelor’s degree programs span such topics as kinesiology, cooperative education, music, religion and social work. An Advanced Summer Enrichment Program (ASEP) helps incoming freshmen bridge the gap between high school and college by granting six credits toward a degree in just six weeks’ time. JCC'ss Office of Student Services happily provides career advice, personal counseling and health services, and a dedicated Student Activities Center serves as home to more than 20 social and academic clubs and organizations. Although 80% of Jarvis students live in the residence halls, eight of the Pan-Hellenic Greek chapters are also represented here. The JCC Bulldogs compete as a part of the Red River Athletic Conference, in basketball, baseball and cross country. Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Jarvis Christian College shines bright, calling to the surrounding communities as a beacon of faith, hope and knowledge.
