Lamar Institute of Technology in Beaumont, Texas, once part of Lamar University, separated from its parent organization in 1995, but its roots in educational excellence trace all the way back to 1949. It awards two-year degrees and professional certifications in many practical areas, such as diagnostic sonography, homeland security, welding, real estate, and diesel mechanics. About 400 new students enroll here each academic year, and have access to dozens of on-campus organizations as well as the Setzer Student Center, known for its TV room, snack bar, gaming areas and various dining options. A learning lab is available, where students may use computers or participate in the PLATO tutorial program. LIT also offers education at a distance, via online for-credit and non-credit courses, using the popular Blackboard learning tool. And LIT is proud of serving a diverse community; more than half of the student body, as of fall semester 2010, identified themselves as non-white or of a cultural minority. Lamar Institute of Technology is your premier provider of exciting opportunity and solid groundwork for a fulfilling future.
