Neosho County Community College, found in Chanute, Kansas with a secondary campus in Ottawa, Kansas, began life in 1965 as an educational option granting Chanute High School graduates the chance to attend college close to home. Today it offers a collegiate experience parallel to that of a larger four-year university, with full on-campus housing and dining plans; students also enjoy access to various vocational buildings and a wellness center as a result of a 2001 expansion. NCCC is home to twenty student clubs and organizations overall, and offers more than 1,400 courses, yet keeps classes small, at an average of just thirteen students per instructor. Concentrations of study include English, mathematics, performing arts and even a brand-new program in aerostructures. Regional high school students can dual-enroll at a cost of just $67 tuition per credit hour. The Panthers also have a robust athletics division; they compete in baseball, wrestling, track and more. And students at NCCC are unusually active even beyond that: clubs exist here about everything from yarn crafting and movies to academic honors and Panther history.
