Established in 1980, the New England Culinary Institute is a private college located in Montpelier, Vermont. The first ever class conducted at the school had a mere 7 students. They have now grown to a student population of about 500, who are offered undergraduate, associate, and certificate degrees in culinary and related fields. The Institute’s program follows the ‘learning by doing’ method, which has generated excellent results. Students learn by preparing dishes for the customers at the teaching restaurants that the school operates. Chefs are widely known as terrors in the kitchen, but NECI’s teaching chefs have been noted for not making their students cry! Alton Brown, the host of Iron Chef America, is one of the notable alumni of the school. As Vermont’s capital city, Montpelier has a variety of fun activities that students might indulge in, such as biking, visiting the sugar house, kayaking, and much more.
