Established in 1950, the New Mexico State University is a public community college located in Carlsbad, New Mexico. NMSU has the distinction of being the first community college of the state. The school offers associate and certificate degrees in the broad fields of liberal arts, healthcare, business & marketing, and security and protective services. The medium sized student population comprises of predominantly Hispanic/Latino students (50%), and NMSU has contributed significantly towards uplifting the population in the surrounding rural area. Student community events are conducted periodically, and those on campus can make avail of facilities such as the tennis court and activity centers. Carlsbad is the site of two national parks; along with the magnificent scenery, the small town environment also adds to the place’s charm.
