Hidden deep within New York’s beautifully wooded Adirondack Park, one can find North Country Community College, which serves nearby Saranac Lake, enrolls about 1500 students and just keeps growing. A popular educational channel for those interested in the liberal arts and sciences, NCCC was rated the Best Community College in New York by Washington Monthly in 2010. Students here work toward A.S. and A.A.S. degrees in such fields as radiologic technology, chemical dependency counseling, fine arts and even wilderness recreation leadership. Non-credit courses are also available in driver education, computer training, swimming and more. It’s also been designated a military-friendly institution; multiple financial aid options for veterans include the Post 9/11 GI Bill and Chapter 31 Vocational Rehabilitation. NCCC’s athletic teams (called the Saints) compete in soccer, volleyball, basketball and lacrosse. Come for the scenery, stay to root for the green and white!
