Established in 1964, Northern Maine Community College was founded what was formerly the Presque Air Force Base at Presque Isle, Maine. It is a public community college, and part of the Maine Community College System, which has six other institutions. Classes officially started in 1963, and NMCC has since grown to include 30 different programs. The college offers courses in four areas – Arts & Sciences, Business Technology, Nursing & Allied Health, and Trade & Technical. Students have the options of taking courses at the online campus as well. Given the small student body of about 2000, NMCC is a close knit community where everyone helps everyone, and efforts are made to make every member comfortable. Although small, the student population is diverse in its makeup, where individuals with varied backgrounds are welcomed. The faculty at the college are known for their dedication, and use of different learning styles. Presque Isle, a small town, is home to the Crown of Maine Balloon Fest, and a thriving snowmobile industry (winter can sure be fun here!).
