Texas Southern University, founded in 1947, is one of the largest historically black universities located in downtown Houston, Texas. It is home to approximately 9,600 students, and a ton of student clubs & organizations. Students can visit the University Museum that displays the Web of Life, a twenty-six-foot mural masterpiece. Also at the center of campus life is TSU’s student life center, equipped with a bowling alley, bookstore, game room and cafeteria. The Tigers battle it out in Division I sports to the beat of its award-winning marching band Ocean of Soul; a band that has performed in the Super Bowl. Notable alumni include Baltimore Ravens cornerback Tray Walker and Grammy-winning jazz saxophonist Kirk Whalum. TSU, with its culture and sense of community, is among the most diverse universities in Texas.
