University of California-Merced, established in 2005, is the newest University of California campus; the nation’s first research university built in the twenty first century. It has over 5,800 undergraduates, and views of Lake Yosemite. Bobcats have their pick of approximately 200 student-run clubs, such as Bobcat radio, Hip Hop Movement, frisbee golf clubs and a solid Greek scene. The university also houses campus-wide events such as the Enchanted Ball, Bobcat Day and dedicated athletics teams. There’s plenty to do in the surrounding city of Merced, such as swimming & water skiing on Lake Yosemite, frequenting its booming arts & culture venues and hiking, snowboarding or an overnight camp-in at the nearby Yosemite National Park. UCM students benefit from its small class sizes and undergraduate research opportunities; making it a fast-growing UC.
