University of California- Santa Cruz, established in 1965, is a public research university located in Santa Cruz, California. It is considered a public ivy and has over 16,000 undergraduates across its ten residential colleges. Each residential college has distinctive architecture and structure and includes nationally ranked programs. The campus is a nature lover’s dream, with its mid-campus hiking trails, surrounding redwood trees and beaches. It’s also home to Tree Nine, an easy-to-climb tree from which the view of the surrounding city and bay is absolutely breathtaking. Other well-known campus traditions include the First Rain Run and April 20th. The weather is great, making trips to the Boardwalk, where there’s fun, sailing, kayaking and games, twice as enjoyable. Grateful Dead fans will lose no time visiting the Dead Center and for those in need of the big city buzz, San Francisco is only an hour away.
