Founded in 1955, the University of Mississippi Medical Center is the health science campus of Ole Miss located in Jackson, Mississippi. As the only academic health center in the state, it works towards continuing innovative research, enhanced education, and top notch patient care. The academic medical center comprises of six health science schools - medicine, nursing, dentistry, health related professions, graduate studies and pharmacy. With about 500 faculty members, and 28 degree programs, the over 3000 students on campus can choose from a variety of specialisations, from cyctotechnology, to medical pharmacology, to nursing. Students at UMMC have the huge advantage of studying at a teaching hospital, with the only Level 1 trauma center and Level 4 NICU center in the state on campus. Med school is hard, strenuous work, and during their time off, students can experiment at the quirky local restaurants around the city, participate in intramural sports, and explore Jackson’s lively music scene.
