Established in 1903, the University of Puerto Rico-Río Piedras is a public research university located in Río Piedras, San Juan, Puerto Rico. The school offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs, in 70 undergraduate programs and 19 graduate degrees with 71 specializations. As Puerto Rico’s first and largest (in terms of student population – 18,000) public university, the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras has the distinction of having granted the highest number of doctoral degrees to Hispanics in the US. Student facilities include academic support services, counselling, special needs services, and speciality programs. Student life at the university is active, with students participating in intramural sports, various clubs & organisations, a literary magazine, as well as an active theatre scene.
