Established in 1890, Valley State University is a public land grant college located in Valley City, North Dakota. Originally started as a teacher’s college, the VCSU has expanded over the years to include over 80 undergraduate programs, as well as an online Master of Education program. The school was one of the first (and few) in the nation to issue laptops to every student and faculty member, as a means of enhancing the learning experience. They also have smart classrooms, and other educational technology enhancements. It has a relatively small student body of about 1200. Small class sizes contribute towards a more hands-on learning experience. Sports and Greek life are two of the most common activities for students at VCSU. The college has had a place in the US News ‘Best College’ list for 18 consecutive years.
