Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, or Virginia Tech (VT) for short, is a public research university found in Blacksburg, Virginia, and home to the HokieBird, over 25,000 undergraduates and 5,000 graduate students. It offers over two hundred degree programs, and recent classwork and research has involved everything from what distinguishes lasers from the fictional concept of a lightsaber to an “invasive species” potluck! Virginia Tech also has one of the most active club scenes in the country, with over 700 distinct organizations, and if that doesn’t meet one’s specific interests, all it takes is three students to start a new club there. Founded in 1872 as Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College, this institution has stood the test of time for quality of the student experience: in 2015, the Princeton Review ranked its student body the second happiest in the nation! On-campus residents enjoy a recent upgrade of VT’s wireless network, although 20 percent of undergraduates choose to join one of its fifty-five fraternity or sorority chapters. VT sends students on an exciting journey that thoroughly prepares them for the world at large!
