What Employers Need to Know About National Intern Day

Everyone remembers their first internship. And as the go-to career platform for students and recent grads, we know the importance of internships firsthand. So, we’re partnering with top companies across the country such as American Express, Under Armour, Dell, Unilever and more to recognize the nation’s hardworking interns and celebrate the first-ever National Intern Day on July 27th.

“Interns are vital contributors to the organizations that they work for, so we wanted to create a single day that puts them in the spotlight.” says Liz Wessel, the CEO and co-founder of WayUp. “WayUp has helped millions of people find internships, and we’ve seen firsthand how impactful those work experiences are both for the intern, and for the company that hires them.“

Your company can celebrate too

If you want your company to be part of the celebration, you can pledge to participate on the National Intern Day site. To help you make the day special for your interns, we’ll send your company a free kit with information and materials to hold your own in-office intern celebration. We also recommend hosting a special event on the 27th to put the focus on your interns and celebrate the amazing work they do every day. This can be anything from a mentorship session to an intern lunch or anything that feels right for your company.

Your interns can win some incredible prizes

As a part of the National Intern Day celebration, we’re launching a search to find the country’s best interns through the Intern Awards. Over the next three weeks, interns across the country, as well as colleagues, friends and employers can submit nominations for the best interns in six unique categories. The winners will be announced on July 27th and interns will receive a $750 gift card to a retailer of their choice including Amazon or Apple.

Your managers and company can be recognized as well

In addition to awarding the country’s best interns, we’re recognizing the best intern managers and internship programs. So, make sure to nominate your managers and your company to win on the National Intern Day site. We’ll be publishing a list of the top 50 internship programs at the end of the summer. We’re definitely curious to see who makes the list!
