Nikki: Hi I’m Nikki with WayUp and we’re here in New York at the Deloitte offices located in 30 Rock yep same 30 Rock that you’re thinking of. And I’m here with Jessica who is on the recruiting team and she’s going to tell us a little bit more about the recruiting process here at Deloitte. So let’s get right into it. Deloitte is a really competitive place to work. You’re looking for top talent well rounded individuals what are you looking for when you go to campus to recruit.
Jessica: Yes. So as competitive as the process is we’re looking for that competitive nature on campus we’re looking for students that really stand out that have been leaders on campus through different organizations whether it’s clubs sports activities. We’re looking for that top talent there’s academic requirements associated with it and we’re looking for people that can really stand out through unique experiences that they are taken part in.
Nikki: Ok so I’m a student and I’m dying to work at Deloitte. What do I do to show you that I am a campus leader and that I’m well-rounded.
Jessica: I think you should really speak to that on your resume talk about what makes unique. Sometimes resumes can be a little bit generic with things that you would anticipate, with what you’ve done in that specific position. Speak to what you’ve done to differentiate yourself and how you are not the same as everyone else and that specific component.
Nikki: Yes so don’t be afraid to show off a little bit.
Nikki: Be bold make sure you stand out.
Nikki: So I know the recruiting process is getting earlier and earlier. When is the ideal time to start thinking about applying and actually submit your application.
Jessica: Yeah so we post our positions in the fall and then we are sourcing talent until the spring so once you see that position posted I would say to apply for it and then we’ll be in touch with next steps.
Nikki: So I applied that way up and I sent an application. Obviously I know I’ll hear either way but what can I expect then. What does the process look like.
Jessica: Yeah So once we get your application more view your application materials to your resume cover letter. We’ll see if you are fit with the pipeline that we’re sourcing for specifically based on qualifications and things like that. So if we’re able to move forward in the interview process we’ll congratulate you through e-mail. And we’ll set up that interview and usually the first round interviews are behaviorally focused. They can also have a case component depending on the position that you’re applying for. Then hopefully being able to move you forward to the second round which would be a case and behavior as well.
Nikki: Yeah. So if there was one thing that you could tell students who are applying to Deloitte that you wish you knew when you were in their position what would it be.
Jessica: I would say definitely pursue your passions. So they’re Deloitte is a big big firm right. And there are so many different positions that you can apply to. Students often ask me like oh well where where do have the most positions available or where can I get in. I want you to pursue your passion. What drives you, what gets you up in the morning, what gets you going. It’s not about what we’re looking for. We’ll find it. It’s what you’re looking for and how we can fit with that.
Nikki: That’s great. So do you have any pro tips for students who are going through the recruiting process with Deloitte.
Jessica: I do. So we’re a professional services firm and we really value professionalism throughout the entire process. I know that there are a lot of different touch points but we we would just, I would advise candidates to maintain professionalism throughout them.
Nikki: Great. Well thank you so much and we really appreciate it And any final words to say to a potential candidate.
Jessica: We look forward to your resume.
