Are You Job Searching in the Wrong City for Your Industry?

When you’re looking for full-time opportunities after graduation, it can be confusing to figure out where the best place is to relocate. After all, just because a city is big doesn’t mean it has the best entry-level jobs available, nor the biggest abundance of opportunities, but now, there’s data to back up where you should be going instead.

Abodo, an apartment hunting startup, recently conducted a study on five industries that are growing well above national industry average of 4.47% in the country’s top 25 cities:

  • Community and social service
  • Computer science and mathematics
  • Healthcare
  • Construction and extraction
  • Arts, design, entertainment, sports and media

The results? There may be more interesting cities to go to for your career than you think.

For example, if you want to go into arts and media, cities like Seattle, Columbus and Denver are incredibly viable options that you may not have even known had rich media scenes.

What are some open job listings in unconventional places currently looking for recent grads? Here are a few places that might be perfect for you:

Or, if you’re looking for a computer science job, did you know that Phoenix, Dallas, Boston and Denver also have great opportunities for you to check out?

If you’re looking for potential opportunities in these cities, here are a few options you can apply for right now on WayUp:

Long story short? There are plenty of amazing cities in the U.S. that can give you a great start to your career (and also keep your cost of living down). There’s no reason to feel like you have to be in a certain city to be successful.

And if you want to see the rest of the research, check out Abodo’s findings here.
