Why an Online Profile Will Help You Get Hired

If you’re like most college students and recent grads, then you likely have several social media profiles including Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. But did you know that there’s one profile in particular that employers look for when you apply for a job? We’re talking about a professional profile that outlines your skills, experience and career goals, and one that employers can easily look to if they’re considering hiring you for a role.

At WayUp, we’ve recently launched a new version of our profiles that will help to show off your skills and your personality. Here’s why you should consider filling yours out ASAP.

It will highlight your skills and experience

Unlike your Instagram and Facebook which are mostly dedicated to your friends, hobbies and cute pics of your dog, a professional profile is intended to showcase your skill set and your previous experience. This will help potential employers get a sense of what you can bring to the table and help them determine whether you’ll make a good addition to their team.

It will show off your personality and what makes you unique

Beyond just focusing on your education and experience, a WayUp profile also includes sections designed to highlight other areas of your life, including a place to add a fun fact about yourself and the chance to include your Instagram, YouTube and Github accounts. Filling out these sections is a great way to let employers know that you’re a motivated, passionate and well-rounded person who will not only be an asset to their team, but also a lot of fun to have around the office.

It will help employers determine what you’re looking for

Last but not least, having a professional online profile will give employers a sense of your career goals and your skill set. It will also help them understand how the position you’re applying for fits into your five or 10-year plan. For example, if you’re applying for an entry-level product management role at a startup and your profile highlights your passion for technology and entrepreneurship, they’ll be able to tell that you’re interested in learning about the industry and that you might be looking to start your own company someday.

Having a professional online profile on WayUp is a great way to showcase the things that make you a valuable candidate and an all-around awesome person. Ready to update yours? Sign into your account to get started.
