We are seeking a General Ledger Accountant with broad experience in oil and gas accounting, including joint interest billing (JIB), accounts payable, JIB receivable, and revenue distribution.
This role is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional who enjoys a hands-on environment where responsibilities span the full accounting cycle—from daily payables and receivables to monthly financial reporting. The successful candidate will support management with accurate and timely financial data while maintaining a strong focus on operational efficiency and cost control.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and post monthly journal entries and adjustments for accruals, revenue, and expense activity.
- Process joint interest billing (JIB) each month, ensuring accuracy of allocations and coding; review partner billings for reasonableness and compliance with COPAS guidelines.
- Manage JIB receivables , monitor outstanding balances, and follow up with partners to resolve discrepancies or payment issues.
- Handle accounts payable processing, including invoice entry, coding, approval routing, and timely payments to vendors and service providers.
- Reconcile key balance sheet accounts (cash, payables, receivables, accruals, revenue, suspense, etc.) and research variances as needed.
- Assist in AFE tracking, LOE analysis, and production cost reviews to support management decisions.
- Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for monthly/quarterly close, external accountants, and auditors.
- Work collaboratively with land, engineering, and operations to ensure accurate reporting and allocations.
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve system efficiency.
Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- 5+ years of upstream oil and gas accounting experience , including hands-on work with account reconciliation, JIB, and accounts payable.
- Strong understanding of COPAS and oil and gas accounting principles.
- Experience managing JIB receivables and vendor payments in an E&P environment.
- Proficiency with oil and gas accounting software (e.g., SSI, Wolfepak, OGsys, Quorum, or similar ).
- Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations, and data analysis).
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Preferred
- Experience managing Revenue Processing and Distribution in an E&P environment.
- Experience in a small private E &P company or family office setting.
