Entry Level Modeling and Simulation Engineer
JOB DESCRIPTION QUALIFICATIONS:
The Sustainability & Future Mobility (S&FM) team is currently looking for a modeling and simulation engineer to join their team at one of the following locations: Cambridge, MA; Arlington, VA; Berkeley, MO; El Segundo, CA; Huntington Beach, CA; Huntsville, AL; Long Beach, CA; Manassas, VA; Mesa, AZ; North Charleston, SC; Oklahoma City, OK; Seal Beach, CA and support the development of Cascade.
The Cascade Modeling & Simulation Engineer will be responsible for implementing model architecture, delivery of engineering models into the software development process and supporting development of the Cascade web application.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Boeing's Sustainability & Future Mobility (S&FM) Team is bringing together research and technology development in order to drive the success of Boeing's commitment to enable the industry to get to net zero carbon emissions by 2050. We are a Boeing Research and Technology team responsible for several emerging technology development projects as well as an integration point for many ongoing technology development efforts across Boeing that will help reduce the industry's impact to climate change.
One of the S&FM team’s responsibilities is development of Boeing’s Cascade capability. Cascade is an interactive website that allows the user to visualize the commercial aviation sector's flight map and filter that by region, aircraft type, airline, or even arrival and destination airports. The user can then see the industries current CO2 emissions and energy usage, quantify its environmental impact, and interactively assess potential future sustainability strategies (fleet renewal, operational efficiency, renewable energy, and advanced technology).

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Implement modeling architecture for Cascade in current and future phases
Deliver high quality modeling to software development and assist in model development
Work collaboratively through technical challenges in software application development
Participate in model verification and validation activities
Apply an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to develop and verify complex lifecycle balanced system of systems model for sustainable aviation
Evaluate customer/operational needs to define and coordinate system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all functional and program interfaces
Performs various analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):
Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related engineering, math or science field
Experience working in a distributed environment and multiple teams
Experience working with software development stakeholders and processes
Apply advanced knowledge of modeling techniques (e.g., mathematical modeling, simulation, design of experiments, operations research) to analyze a system.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):
Experience with aviation sector traffic, fleet and aircraft performance modeling and demonstrated ability to apply advanced mathematical principles.
Experience with full-stack software development and/or integration of modeling and simulation capabilities into software applications.
