JOB DESCRIPTION QUALIFICATIONS:
Boeing Defense Systems looking for an Entry-Level Structure and Payload Design Engineer who has an interest in supporting and developing expertise in Dimensional Management engineering for the Mechanical & Structural Engineering (MSE) Processes, Tools & Training organization. Positions will support the following programs: Phantom Works, T7A, MQ-225, F-15, F-18, and Space & Launch, & Vertical Lift in Hazelwood, MO.
Dimensional Management is used to identify requirements and objectives that are dimensional in nature, decompose those requirements and objectives to measurements, use variation analysis tools to link measurements to detail part feature variation. Requirements are typically system level and customer defined. Objectives are typically build objectives and identified by manufacturing engineering to reduce product cost and increase product quality.
In this role the candidate will apply the dimensional management process on programs and use variation analysis tools. Additionally, in this roll the candidate will help develop, maintain, and train dimensional management processes, tool use, and tolerance application (GD&T).
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position requires good communication skills to work with people from multiple engineering disciplines to ensure dimensional requirements are clearly established and dimensional control established for the product, tooling and assembly processes to achieve functional requirements and ease of assembly. Variation analysis is used to define the appropriate dimensional controls. Coordination with product development teams and manufacturing teams through more senior engineers is necessary to achieve application of the controls in the most cost-effective manner.
Perform variation analysis using specialized software to determine effects of part tolerances, tool tolerances, locating methods and assembly sequence.
Assist in selection of assembly and detail part datums and ensure datums are properly established by tooling or manufacturing process.
Assist in determining appropriate tolerance controls and calculate tolerance values that will achieve functional requirements and ease of assembly. Comply with the appropriate GD&T standards.
Assist in evaluating whether or not dimensional requirements are within manufacturing and assembly process capability.
Assist in development of product dimensional requirements and document team decisions regarding dimensional control.
Assist the teams in identification of key characteristics and in the development of control plans for the key characteristics.
Review process control plans, quality plans and inspection plans for appropriate levels of tolerance value verification.
This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.
