JOB DESCRIPTION
The Buyer is responsible for determining purchasing needs from a computer system generated purchasing queue, management input and from both the production and material coordinator. Analyze quotes and bids for best price and delivery, in accordance with Decimal’s needs. Generates purchase orders from the purchasing queue and from approved purchase requisitions. Performs administrative duties relating to paperwork and computer tasks.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct quoting in the form of RFQ’s and analyze for best price & delivery
- Manages outside services suppliers by placing orders and expediting deliveries
- Identify and Evaluate 2nd source suppliers as needed
- Work with the Quality to ensure material specifications are met
- Resolve issues with suppliers and drive corrective actions
- Negotiates price and lead time, when placing POs with suppliers
- Skilled in managing multiple projects, multiple supplier programs and in communicating status real time
REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent. A minimum of three years of purchasing experience
- Requires good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate in English. Must be able to sit, stand and walk. Sight and hearing must be correctable to normal.
- Must be computer literate (MS Word, Excel) and have good phone skills.
- Must be familiar with MRP systems.
- Must display a sense of urgency and be diligent in carrying out daily tasks.
- Must be familiar with manufacturing products and raw materials
- Must be familiar with bill of materials and purchase requisitions
- Knowledge of spare part purchases and spare part quoting
- Prior experience with Sheet Metal Fabrication, Machining and Special Process’s a plus, i.e. Electro-plating, Painting, Heat Treatment, NDT a plus
- Experience working in ERP/MRP Systems. Made2Manage experience a plus!
- Good interpersonal skills and knowledge of computers and common business software applications.
- Ability to perform basic math calculations related to business applications.
- Language: Excellent written and oral communication skills in the English language.
- Logic/Reasoning: Understanding of basic business concepts, relationships and a thorough understanding of purchasing and inventory control concepts.
- Normal physical ability required. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Senses of sight and hearing correctable to normal.
