    Simulation and Testing Intern This is a fall internship position that

    will support NASAs MSFC Engineering group charged with simulation and testing of high fidelity systems supporting NASAs Space Launch System (SLS), including: - Work within a highly integrated team of senior engineers. - Be introduced to the processes and then help to provide coordination and integration support related to these tasks. - As candidate becomes more familiar with the tasks and key players, (s)he can take on additional responsibilities. The candidate collects, interprets and documents system requirements; participates in component, subsystem and system concept designs; develops and recommends methods, tools and designs and participates as a member of a multi- functional test laboratory team. Some functions of the position are as follows: - Perform propulsion test systems engineering functions as required. - Analyze and develop test processes per customer requirements. - Implement test approach per detailed designs and customer requirements. - Support test integration troubleshooting and problem resolution activities. - Develop and execute test plans and procedures. - Conduct and participate in design and installation reviews. - Enter or update documentation into appropriate control systems. - Troubleshoot and correct test automation anomalies. - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure products meet performance goals. - Produce documentation and user training materials to assist users in the operation of software. These activities will be on-going as the testing requirements mature and the SLS program completes program phases, review and schedule milestones. Our Intern program, visit http://jacobsesssa.com/coop/default.aspx The Huntsville area, visit http://www.Huntsville.org/ Typically, educational requirement is enrollment in a university or college program leading to a BS degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or related field from an ABET accredited institution is required. Ideal candidate should be on the educational track of a Mechanical Engineer degree. Additional desired attributes: - Experience in mechanical and electrical systems design. - Experience in thermal testing with cryogenic fluids or heat banks. - Experience in instrumentation and control system design, installation, operation and maintenance. - Exposure to data acquisition systems, signal conditioning and data recovery. Must be able to provide own transportation. Essential Functions Work Environment Office and laboratory environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<15%). Physical Requirements Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (40%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Jacobs facilities (10%). Equipment and Machines Requires ability to operate electromechanical and servo-hydraulic materials test machines, furnaces, environmental chambers, hydraulic pumps, a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%). Attendance Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required. Other Essential Functions The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
