    JSEG Advanced Concepts Office (ACO) Spring Post Graduate Intern (AER0000UT) This Intern position will support NASA Marshall Space Flight Centers (MSFC) Advanced Concepts Office (ACO). The Advanced Concepts Office at MSFC specializes in concept definition studies for space exploration elements. The office consists of multi-discipline design teams that can provide fully-integrated assessments of missions and vehicle elements. Work within a highly integrated team of engineers Job duties include development of analysis packages for structural dynamic systems using empirical and finite element based methods, interfacing with design engineers to provide relevant feedback, development and delivery of reports and presentations to management, and collaboration with outside vendors and personnel from other NASA centers in the assessment of liquid propulsion system hardware and associated Ground Support Equipment. The successful candidate must: Have preexisting knowledge in advanced design methods Know model based systems engineering design and optimization Demonstrate the capability to plan and perform aerospace subsystems and system level analysis independently and as part of a team Be able to perform trade studies of aerospace systems Have strong customer relations skills Have the ability to multi-task and transition between quick turnaround assignments Show initiative and be proactive to make connections and build relationships with key stakeholders Demonstrate strong technical writing and presentation skills Must be in good academic standing Must be able to provide own transportation. Essential Functions Work Environment Office and laboratory environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<15%). Physical Requirements Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (40%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Jacobs facilities (10%). Equipment and Machines Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%). Attendance Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required. Other Essential Functions The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
