Engineering Intern Location: San Diego, California US Requisition Number : 203185 Job Category : College & Interns San Diego, California US With all the investments made in analytics, its time to stop buying into partial solutions that overpromise and underdeliver. Its time to invest in answers. Only Teradata leverages all of the data, all of the time, so that customers can analyze anything, deploy anywhere, and deliver analytics that matter most to them. And we do it at scale, on-premises, in the Cloud, or anywhere in between. We call this Pervasive Data Intelligence. Its the answer to the complexity, cost, and inadequacy of todays analytics. And it's the way Teradata transforms how businesses work and people live through the power of data throughout the world. Join us and help create the era of Pervasive Data Intelligence. Our Company With all the expenditures made in analytics, its time to stop buying into partial solutions that overpromise and underdeliver. Its time to invest in answers. Only Teradata leverages all of the data, all of the time, so customers can analyze anything, deploy anywhere, and deliver analytics that matter most to them. And we do it on-premises, in the Cloud, or anywhere in between, throughout the world. We call this pervasive data intelligence. Its the new way we transform how businesses work and people live through the power of data. Our summer internship program lasts 10-12 weeks beginning in May/June and ending in August/September. Fast-paced, flexible, fun. The Teradata culture isnt just about one kind of person. So many individuals make up who we are, making us that much more unique. Its what sets apart the dynamic, diverse and collaborative environment that is Teradata. Our Team Join a growing team that has for nearly 20 years been building an open source framework to automate the parallel installation and deployment of operating systems and clustered applications - stacki.com. Your Opportunity Project 1: This summer's project will be to develop a process to automatically configure and map an entire datacenter of unknown hardware on the fly, and to integrate that process into Stacki. Background: Server-grade hardware contains a network interface which allows access to an onboard microprocessor. This controller, called the BMC, has information about the rest of the machine as well as the ability to access certain functionality of the machine (such as powering on/off). By querying the BMC we may understand the rest of the server's connectivity and capabilities, which would allow us to completely configure it remotely and automatically. When this process is automated, you could deploy an entire rack (or an entire room) full of servers while starting with zero knowledge about the hardware other than it is plugged in. As a stretch goal, once this mapping is completed, the next task is extending Stacki to be able to map a given host to a set of ports on one or more network switches. Project 2: Install Ubuntu systems from a Stacki server Background: Currently Stacki servers are capable of installing SuSE Linux, and RedHat systems. Understand the functionality, and process of installation, and extend this functionality to install Ubuntu servers. The candidate will learn the internals of how OSes are installed on machines, and learn to modify the installer to support multiple Linux distributions Project 3: Installing Ceph on a Cluster Background: Ceph is a distributed filesystem that is deployed on clusters. The candidate will learn how Ceph is deployed in on a Cluster, and adapt / automate that process to the Stacki core software. Qualifications/Requirements Must be enrolled in BS Computer Science or equivalent degree program. With graduation dates between December 2019-June 2021. Knowledge of Linux Knowledge of Networking Passion for automation Interest in working with physical hardware Python experience is required.
