  • Responsibilities

    The UX Designer will learn the design, usability and accessibility for 1 or more projects and programs. You will work alongside a senior designer, product management, development, business stakeholders to drive a user-centered design approach. This role embodies a passionate, yet pragmatic design leader that can analyze customer needs and behaviors, identify problem solving opportunities, and successfully transform requirements into intuitive and elegant user experiences.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Work alongside a Senior designer to break down business and IT requirements and user stories and turn them into intuitive user experiences that align fluidly with GM's 'Customers For Life' and 'Dealers For Life' initiatives
    • Design user-focused wireframes, hi-fidelity mockups, interaction models, specifications, style guides and prototypes that elegantly illustrate a deep understanding of the user's needs
    • Build strong relationships with IT and business partners to ensure the user is well represented in the product development cycle
    • Learn and develop personas, user workflows / story boards and logical information architecture
    • Ensure compliance with all standards of usability, design best practices and accessibility
    • Participate in workshops for journey mapping, brainstorming, vision sessions, and requirements gathering
    • Research design trends and forecast future experiences
    • Foster collaboration among teammates and evangelize the need for brand and application consistency
    • Take ownership and create personal professional growth objectives and find ways to achieve them

    This role offers the following WORK APPROPRIATELY strategies:

    • ONSITE: This position requires an employee to be on-site on a full-time basis.
    • HYBRID: This position does not require an employee to be onsite full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. This position requires an employee to be onsite two times per week, generally on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

  • Qualifications
    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in HCI, Human Factors, Psychology, Design or equivalent degree
    • Graduation date must be between December 2020 to September 2022
    • Understanding of design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, XD, etc and advanced prototyping skills with tools such as Axure, Sketch, Balsamiq etc.
    • Experience designing in a variety of form factors, including desktop, responsive web, and mobile platforms
    • Solid understanding of how the user-centered design process drives design thinking and implementation
    • Innovative data visualization skills
    • Strong attention to detail and passionate problem solver with critical thinking skills
    • Understanding of i18n and localization best practices and WCAG Level AA accessibility requirement standards
    • A strong portfolio of school projects, freelance or internship work demonstrating creating user-centered designs that illustrate the ability to turn requirements into creative solutions
