    Howmet has an immediate opening for a Combustion Engineer responsible for managing our Rancho Cucamonga and Fontana Heat Treat furnaces. This position is a key member of the Facilities team, is a highly visible position that will require traveling to different sites within California.

    Howmet Engines is a world-class producer of aero engine and industrial gas turbine components, including airfoils, forged rings, disks and forgings. We excel in vacuum melted superalloys, machining, performance coatings and hot isostatic pressing for high performance parts that enable the next generation of quieter, more fuel-efficient aero engines and cleaner power generation.

    SUMMARY: Responsible for managing Rancho Cucamonga and Fontana Heat Treat & Forge furnaces, all quality related functions for designated Customers and collaborating with EHS to ensure environmental compliance. The Combustion Engineer will manage the furnaces to support production and ensure that all processing is carried out in accordance with metallurgical requirements. Develops management tools and strategies to ensure that customer expectations are met for production, quality compliance, certifications, and accreditations.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This is not intended as a comprehensive list; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.

    • Ensure that furnaces are in good operational condition and qualifications are up to date according to relevant specifications.
    • Set up preventative and corrective measures to avoid unplanned furnace shutdowns and non-conformances.
    • Perform and/or oversee the regular daily/weekly/monthly check on each furnace.
    • Provide technical support to Production, Quality & Metallurgical teams.
    • Coordinate with Maintenance and Heat Treat personnel for the necessary equipment installation, maintenance, and repairs.
    • Develop, scope/specifications for new forge/HT furnaces and ensure furnace will meet all customer, safety and regulatory standards.
    • Prepare or oversee thermocouple placement, racking and/or performance of Temperature Uniformity Survey. Upload the uniformity survey results to the network system for proper review and acceptance by the Quality personnel to release the furnace back to production.
    • Work with Manufacturing and Engineering to optimize equipment utilization and fuel efficiency.
    • Analyze process data to determine actions for process and equipment improvements.
    • Support EHS as thermal process owner and act as liaison for contractor safety oversight.
    • Support EHS to ensure compliance to all local regulatory standards, primarily SoCal AQMD.
    • Ensure appropriate control instrumentation is calibrated and in compliance, such as the temperature recorders, temperature controllers and the over limit controllers.
    • Establish and maintain schedules to ensure compliance with calibration, SAT, TUS etc.. A recall list is also maintained to keep track of calibrations on each piece of equipment/instrumentation.
    • Ensure compliance to RCH/FON and customer quality system requirements and AMS2750 Pyrometry.
    • Complete all audits, forms, and reports as required by the customer
    • Ability to use quality tools to respond and resolve customer concerns
    • Provide direction to Furnace Technicians in the performance of their duties (with regards to the SATs, TUS, etc).
    • Perform other duties as assigned
    • Business travel may be required
  • Qualifications

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS

    • Business travel may be required Bachelor's Degree in Materials or Mechanical Engineering.
    • Must be able to read engineering drawings and specifications, have knowledge of geometric dimension and tolerancing principles and have the ability to use measuring devices common to the manufacturing industry.
    • 5 years' experience in a manufacturing environment.
    • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
    • Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
    • This position is subject to the Internal Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite & MRP Systems.

    • GE DSQR Certificate, PWA DSQR Certificate are required. Rolls Royce DSQR, MTU DSQR Certificate and Snecma SARA certificate are preferred but not required.

    • ASQ Certified Internal Auditor preferred but not required.
