    HOWMET FASTENING SYSTEMS (HFS) is seeking an EDM PROGRAMMER at our aerospace manufacturing facility in the FULLERTON, CA.

    Performs all types of precision EDM (Electrical Discharge Machine) work in steel and carbide to exacting tolerance. Studies part prints and decides on correct procedures to obtain dimensions and forms of finished products. Programs and sets up parts on machines with proper power settings and depths. Checks final forms by taking molds or using other gauges to verify tolerances and finishes. Machinist will be held to established quality standards. Incumbent will have control to make minor adjustments to the process or machine after tasks are assigned.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Program, set up and operate Agie Wire EDM's.

    • Set up using Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) and EROWA Quick change tooling

    • Loads and edits programs on machines

    • Performs all aspects of writing and creating programs using mechanics

    • Reads blueprints and has knowledge to use micrometers, calipers, comparators, thread gauges, depth micrometers and dial indicators as needed.

    • Plans the set up and sequence of operations by studying work orders, part prints, engineering prints and verbal instructions.

    • Checks dimensions, finish material and nature of part to determine proper power setting and feed to hold specified tolerances and obtain required finish.

    • Correct and change computers' programs according to the parts that are running and their dimensions.

    • Makes recommendations for alternate method to fabricate tools and parts.

    • Parts to be lifted and/or transported may weigh up to 30 lbs.

    • Keeps work area and equipment clean, safe and in an orderly fashion on a daily basis.

    • Performs other tasks of equal or lesser skill as required.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

  • Qualifications

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS Must have Mechanics.Mastercam programming experience. CMM preferred. Must be able to teach others advanced Wire EDM processes. Must have full understanding on reading the Wire EDM blueprints. Must be able to set up gages to ensure parts are confirming. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE - High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred; and five to ten years experience in a Tool Room environment, formal apprenticeship or equivalent. Ability to trouble-shoot and solve problems of the most advanced level. Must possess a working knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metals and their alloys. LANGUAGE SKILLS - Ability to read and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to complete routine documentation. Ability to speak clearly and effectively with managers, supervisors and coworkers. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. REASONING ABILITY - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. COMPUTER SKILLS - To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Syteline Manufacturing software.
