    About

    • The business management function provides short-term operating and administrative leverage to the BI Business or Function Head, simultaneously shaping and executing long-term strategic change.
    • Business management provides holistic operational support to senior banking leaders (e.g. industry and product group heads), inclusive of managing/contributing to group specific strategic analyses, business and client planning, budgeting, in conjunction with HR, hiring and other personnel matters, including managing performance and compensation, approving resource expenditures and planning and executing client events and outreach initiatives.
    • The Business Management function is critical to the success of the Global Investment Banking business.The supporting of the FIG businessprovides them with critical leverage in driving the strategy of the business as well as allowing them more time to spend in revenue generating, client-facing activities.

    Overall purpose of role

    • The role supports the Investment Banking Global FIG Business. The Business Manager for this group supports 150+ bankers on a global basis with a variety of responsibilities.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Business management provides holistic operational support to senior banking leaders (e.g. industry and product group heads), inclusive of managing/contributing to group specific strategic analyses, business and client planning, budgeting, in conjunction with HR, hiring and other personnel matters, and executing client events and outreach initiatives.
    • Analysis and monitoring of business performance
    • Planning and business updates to Barclays Senior Leadership (e.g. business strategy presentations, business reviews, sector reviews, presentations to Investment Banking Management Team, etc.)
    • Business strategy and business planning (e.g. Client tiering exercise, node review exercise, etc.)
    • Manage resource allocation (e.g. headcount within group, Philanthropy budget, events budget, morale budget)
    • Supports FIG specific conferences and client events (e.g., GFSC, FIG CEO Client dinner post GFSC, reception in conjunction with GFSC, FIG CEO client dinner, FIG CEO Forum event, etc.)
    • Supports client initiatives and engagement opportunities (e.g. manage nomination list for CEO dinner, internal client events, etc.)
    • Assistance with employee communications (e.g. roundtables, group meetings)
    • Manages administrative assistant population – and performs year-end reviews and compensation for administrative assistants
    • Assistance with Group mid-year and year-end process (including reviews, roundtables, compensation, etc.)
    • Help coordinate grads (summer process, placement, etc.)
    • Helps coordinate onboarding and training for interns and grads
    • Note this is an onsite role – minimum 4 days in office (as of March 2024 office policy)

    • Review incoming materials for adequacy and appropriateness in advance, ensuring related discussion with Business/Function Head is meaningful and impactful
    • Enable leaders to take calculated risks through delegation of trust and responsibility to Business Management.This may include both day-to-day activities as well as strategic information leveraged to make key decisions

    • Build a deep understanding of the firm’s strategy, complementing this with a tailored Business/Function-specific strategy to be implemented on behalf of the Business/Function Head

    • Work with Chief Controls Office as well as 2nd and 3rd line Functions to implement regulatory and compliance directives in the business, as needed

    • Responsible for managing the administrative assistant population
    • Set challenging objectives for personal, team, and function improvement and hold others to account in delivering these
    • Maintain open lines of communication with team members, encouraging two-way feedback throughout the year not limited to formal performance appraisal cycles
    • Actively recognise staff achievements and milestones throughout the course of the year

    Risk and Control Objective

    • Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards. Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work you do
    • Person Specification

    Experience / Education

    • Bachelor’s Degree
    • Proved relevant experience with a Business Manager, Finance, Operations, Risk or Banking background
    • Strong experience in a financial services firm or institution
    • Demonstrated experience with MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)

    Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:

    • Strong Microsoft Office skills including Excel (advanced proficiency), PowerPoint (advanced proficiency), Word
    • Understanding of Dealogic Market Fee Share data, with proven ability to manage a variety of data requirements for the business as well as familiarity with internal revenue reporting systems (e.g. eBanker)
    • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced, dynamic environment
    • Self-starter and ability to work independently or as part of a team
    • Highly organised individual with strong written and oral communication skills
    • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail – proven ability to manipulate and interpret data quickly and accurately to draw insightful conclusions and present findings effectively to a senior audience
    • Demonstrates commercial acumen and business knowledge of the Banking Business
    • Ability to treat confidential information with the utmost discretion
