DATA ENGINEER

As a Barclays Data Engineer this is exciting time to join our Research Technology department, who require our New York Development team to build out the Research Data Platform in AWS.  You will be involved in all aspects of software delivery including analysis, requirements gathering with Data Science and Investment Science teams, design, develop, test and move software to production. Development work will incorporate a range of languages and technologies, with a particular focus on reliability and lean data science workflow in cloud environment using Python and Spark for big data analysis.

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING:

• Contributing as a team member to build out Research Data Platform in public cloud

• Applying design & system architecture skills to ensure continual improvements in reliability and maintainability of Research Data Platform

• Developing code in line with the stories that have been agreed as part of the delivery team

• Being active in engaging in providing solutions to the stories that have been submitted.

• Being active in engaging in the delivery process and collaborate with other delivery team members to makes sure that the focus is on business value delivery

• Making sure that all development is in line with Barclays Standards

• Providing prompt support for data scientists when required across all applications of the platform

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

• Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in Computer Science or Engineering degree

• Three plus years of experience in Python along with one plus years of experience of working on Linux/Unix and familiar with automation techniques

• Experience in AWS

• Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written to get people on the same page for software development and process establishment

SKILLS THAT WILL HELP YOU IN THE ROLE:

• Hands on experience working with Big Data Technologies such as Spark

• Experience in data engineering, including building data pipelines and data governance

• Experience in DevOps

• Experience with Docker containers
