Developer Tooling Engineering Lead

As a Developer Tooling Engineering Lead, you will be responsible for the end-to-end technical ownership and delivery of a defined product within the Chief Technology Office product set. This includes architecture, design, implementation, deployment, maintenance, observation, and support of Developer Tooling products from inception through to realised business value. It is also an opportunity for you to improve the procurement and delivery of tools required by Barclays application developers to write, build, and release their code.

What will you be doing?

• Engineering strategic products, solutions, and processes to be consumed across all technology partners within Barclays
• Mentoring engineers in the team, along with being hands-on with code
• Identifying proactively solutions to improve developer productivity with applications and automation solutions delivered
• Working through problems with team, be ready to roll up sleeves, have an opinion and push through engineering specific roadmap items
• Collaborating and working with internal stakeholders and other CTO leads to provide best experience for technologists and developers across the organization
• Designing and implementing ingestion tool using Go programming language to download a defined set of developer software tools, standardize and repackage them,
• Designing, implementing CLI installer in Go programming language to run on user laptops &desktops to manage downloading, installing, upgrading , management of software tools
• Creating automated pipelines to build base container images, using Docker or other similar container technology for applications written in Java, .NET, Go, NodeJS languages

What we’re looking for:

• High degree of fluency and practical recent experience developing software applications in Golang programming language or equivalent
• High degree of fluency and practical recent experience using technologies like (but not limited to) HTML, CSS, Javascript, TypeScript, React or Angular
• Solid knowledge, technical skills, and proven experience of CICD platforms such as Jenkins or GitLab
• Experience of application containerisation; building images from Dockerfiles; management of images, tags in container registries; running from images in container Platforms

Skills that will help you in the role:

• High degree of fluency and practical experience of writing and building applications in Java and .NET or other complimentary OOP languages
• Solid knowledge, technical skills, and proven experience of scripting languages such as Perl, Python, Groovy or Ruby
• Expertise in Agile Software Engineering practices and experience of working in dynamic teams following scrum development practices
• Experience of Public Cloud implementations
