Intern, Process Analytical Chemistry We are seeking an intern to join
our Process Analytical Chemistry team at Amyris. As a member of the team
you will help in assay development and sample analysis using primarily
Near Infrared and other spectroscopic techniques, as well as maintenance
and upkeep of laboratory equipment. The successful candidate will be an
enthusiastic, self-motivated, resourceful problem solver who works well
independently and as part of a team. Responsibilities * Work with lab
members to prepare samples and acquire spectra measurements of analytes
both in synthetic samples and from fermentation samples * Begin to learn
the method of model building so as to be able to build calibration model
for analysis and measurements * Document work in note book * Where
required, acquire data on low-volume or non-routine samples * Perform
set-up, modification, troubleshooting and performance tests on
analytical instrumentation and spectrophotometers to ensure acceptable
performance with minimal downtime * Give presentations on method
performance study findings to internal audiences Qualifications *
Currently pursuing higher education coursework completed preferably in
chemistry or related discipline like physics and statistics. A recent
graduate is highly preferred. * Some familiarity with the principles of
spectroscopic techniques * Some exposure to statistical and chemometric
techniques and software in one or more of the following is desired:
Unscrambler, R, python or equivalent * Some experience in other
analytical techniques such as gas chromatography, liquid chromatography,
mass spectrometry, or titration analyses is a plus * Strong
problem-solving ability * Demonstrated ability in time-management *
Demonstrated ability to write clear and concise technical documentation
- Proficiency at presenting results and status updates at department or
group meetings * Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team; clear
interpersonal communication ability * Energetic, highly self-motivated,
and able to work efficiently and productively in a fast-paced R&D
