  • Responsibilities

    The automation co-op is designed to give students experience in a cutting-edge field and to help VVS develop new manufacturing technologies at our Cambridge facility. This role will involve projects in areas such as automating manufacturing steps such as material handling, testing/inspection, or assembly; developing and documenting standard best practice procedures; evaluating processes and making changes to make them better – safer, high quality, faster, and/or lower cost. It will require significant collaboration with a diverse group of people including, but not limited to, engineers, technicians, operations, and quality personnel.

    • Performs all tasks in accordance with companies established policies and procedures. Document all work. Training new employees on the maintenance of equipment, safety of equipment, SOPs and GMPs on an as needed basis
    • Adhering to all established Standard Operating Procedures and Safety Policies
    • Inspect equipment to locate potential causes of trouble.
    • Routinely check equipment for potential safety hazards and implement safety improvements promptly after a need is identified.
    • Interact with production personnel to assess equipment problems and observe equipment to determine what repairs or modifications are necessary.
    • Actively participate in company Continuous Improvement activities.
    • Communicate effectively with other departments within the organization and function within a team environment
    • The candidate will gain experience with DCS and/or PLC coding including but not limited to DeltaV, Allen Bradley, and Siemens.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

    • Interact with the site process, automation, and facilities engineering teams
    • Collect information required for execution of assigned projects
    • Provides frequent overall feedback to management
  • Qualifications
    • Enrolled in a university studying an engineering discipline such as Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
    • 2-5 years’ of completed university coursework
    • Knowledge of biologic manufacturing, vector manufacturing, fill finish, or label and pack processes
    • Strong interpersonal and communications skills; written and oral.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS/FACTORS:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee:

    • NeedsAbility to aseptically gown and/or sterile gown as needed
    • Ability to work within environmental clean rooms
    • Ability to function in a dynamic environment and balance multiple priorities simultaneously
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to write, read/review written documentation for extended periods of time. Specific vision requirements for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
    • Is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and stand for extended periods. The employee is occasionally required to be active.
