    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a Data Analyst (PowerBI and related technologies) intern for our Corporate Solutions and Integrations (CSI) group. The primary goal of this critical role is to contribute and help evolve the activities and outcomes of the Business Intelligence, Data analytics and Report development as part of the Reporting as a Service function in support of our IT transformation to be more data-driven across Global IT. In this role, you will be involved with design, develop, facilitate and co-ordinate of data models and PowerBI dashboard development, change communication and alignment with key stakeholders and get involved in the delivery of dashboards and associated reporting to required specification.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Engage with daily Reporting as a Service operations including request review and routing /delegation across the team

    • Collect and analyse data to identify trends and patterns that inform future business decisions

    • Data modelling, designing data analysis methodologies and compiling reports to present to senior management

    • Identify opportunities for standardization and make recommendations

    • Roll-out data-critical dashboards to provide transparency and data driven insights across Global IT

    • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to identify areas of the business that could benefit from analysis

    • Review data collection processes and assessing the validity of the information stored

    • Understand the laws surrounding the collecting and processing of data and ensuring that all policies reflect current legislation

    • Identifying anomalous data and examining and eliminating any processes or procedures that contribute to unreliable data being collected

    • Working closely with the IT Security function to ensure that the data collection and storage systems are secure and robust

    • Establish meaningful KPIs and metrics to track progress

    • Day to day support, including monitoring and maintaining successful data synchronization

    • Develop and maintain training materials and documentation

    • Interact with teams to identify opportunities for new reporting opportunities

    • Coach stakeholders in reporting value and best practices

    • Take the lead to keep the team updated with the latest PowerBI updates on a rolling monthly basis

    • Work closely with other Thermo Fisher Data Analysts to identify improvement areas based on the latest reporting technology advances

    QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

    • Minimum Education: High School Diploma

    • Pursing a Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, data science, business analytics, statistics, or similar

    • Relevant experience in PowerBI and reporting technologies

    • Understanding of reporting technologies, standards, and track record of successful value-add report delivery

    • Data analytics certification is a plus

    • Qualifications and a passion for Computer Science, Management Information Systems or related technology strongly preferred

    • SQL and DAX experience

    • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills including ability to carry out data analysis

    • Skilled in the development of metrics to incentivize best practice behaviors

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including experience in presenting to key stakeholders

    • Excellent mathematical skills, particularly in statistics

    • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work with diverse personality types

    • Excellent team player and team builder

    • Expertise in computer programming, data mining and data visualisation techniques

    • Understanding of the various types of performance analysis such as SWOT, PESTLE and enterprise analysis

    • Problem-solving skills and creativity

    • In-depth understanding of database design and management, including SQL and data modelling

    • Business administration skills
