Primary Function We are currently seeking a Public Health Modeling Co-op/Intern to work part time (20 hours/week minimum) starting now through Spring Semester and full time (40 hours/week) during Summer Semester 2019 . This position located in Columbus, OH . Battelles Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNE) Defense business, in our National Security Global Business, is currently seeking persons with basic knowledge of toxicology and exposure guidelines with statistical savvy. The Counter-Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) Engineering Team within CBRNE Defense provides its customers with technical analyses as well as modeling capabilities to inform their preparedness and response planning efforts to mitigate risk to the United States or their company. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to make this Nation and Battelles clients better prepared and safer. Major Responsibilities Support efforts to develop the next generation of military exposure guidelines that provides commanders with a mechanism for considering chemical risks Support the model development activities for responding to hazardous events. Write reports of methods used and results obtained. Position Requirements Currently pursuing a masters degree in Public Health Minimum 3.0 GPA in both undergrad and graduate programs U.S. citizenship is required, with the eligibility to obtain and maintain required government security clearance Mathematical coursework in Calculus Statistical skills sufficient to apply probit dose-response, estimate subpopulations from survey data, and describe a normal distribution THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION: Undergraduate degree in Toxicology, Statistics, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Anatomy or other related degree Mathematical coursework in Linear Algebra and Differential Equations Experience in Monte Carlo sampling and probabilistic techniques Computer science or programming skills in python, C++, C# or Java Legal Disclaimer The above statements are intended to describe the nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this job.
