    SUMMARY OF INTERNSHIP

    Bioinformatics Internship position provides an opportunity for students who are currently pursuing a quantitative discipline (such as Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Biological Engineering, Physics, etc.) to get a hands-on experience working with bioinformatics scientists in a fast-paced R&D environment. Bioinformatics intern will directly contribute to the NGS products development and advance best R&D practices.

    The position starts in June, paid working 40 hours per week through August. An opportunity exists for this position to continue through the academic year on a part-time basis to allow for class schedules.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Develop algorithms, software tools and web applications to support novel targeted sequencing product development for the Ion Torrent semiconductor DNA sequencing systems.
    • Specific tasks will be tailored to the bioinformatics intern’s experience level and abilities.
    • A bioinformatics intern will work under the close supervision of bioinformatics scientists and managers.
  • Qualifications
    • Students currently enrolled in classes leading to a graduate degree in a quantitative discipline such as Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Biological Engineering, Physics, etc.
    • Experience in Bioinformatics, Genomics, Next-Generation Sequencing or Microarray data analysis and algorithm development is preferred but not required.
  • Desired skills

    SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    • Ability to work independently and as a member of a cross-functional team.
    • Proficiency in Python is required; experience with Linux shell, Git, R, C++, Java is a plus.
    • Strong statistical background would make you a stronger candidate.
    • Knowledge of web applications development and SQL databases is an advantage.
    • Good written and verbal communication skills are essential.
