Research Associate - Cardiovascular Disease Initiative Broad Institute 32 reviews - Cambridge, MA The Broad Institute of MIT & Harvard, a world leader in genetic research, is looking for exceptional candidates to join the Cardiovascular Disease Initiative (CVDi). The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team to assist in the investigation of cardiovascular disease using genetics, cell biology, biochemistry, cell lines and model systems. The current project will leverage recent genetic discoveries to validate potential new targets for the development of therapeutics against myocardial infarction and atrial fibrillation under the direction of Drs. Kathiresan and Ellinor. The candidate will be involved in day-to-day laboratory work, assist with experimental design, analysis and troubleshooting and communicate scientific results to the Broad CVDi team. Additional responsibilities include: - Development and execution of cell-based assays to support target validation, hit identification and optimization - Maintenance of cell lines, organization of cell banks, and isolation of primary cells for use in cell based assays. - Independently working to design and execute research plans to ensure that critical project requirements, timelines and deliverables are met. - Troubleshooting and solving scientific problems with minimal guidance - Independently operating and maintaining lab equipment. Key Responsibilities: * Maintain cell lines * Assist in maintenance of mouse colony and genotyping * Work independently to design and execute research plans to ensure that critical project requirements, timelines and deliverables are met * Troubleshoot scientific problems with minimal guidance * Analyze experimental data and communicate scientific results to team members * Prepare, order, and maintain stocks of necessary reagents and supplies * Attend project meetings to present results and coordinate with other scientists to support project goals Requirements: * Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or Chemistry or related field with 2+ years of experience; or MS in a relevant field with 1+ years of related experience * Strong experience with molecular biology (cloning, PCR, RT-PCR, CRISPR/Cas-9 technology) and biochemistry (protein purification, enzymatic assays, western blot, ELISA) preferred * Strong cell culture experience is required, experience with primary cell transfection preferred * Ability to critically read, interpret, and adapt scientific literature * Strong communication and presentation skills (verbal and written) * Strong organization, documentation and time management skills
