POSITION DESCRIPTION
The DNA Learning Center ( DNALC ) of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is currently seeking a college-level intern to provide laboratory assistance to the mitochondrial DNA sequencing service and Silencing Genomes projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Perform daily laboratory prep work and prepare reagents for DNA sequencing, RNAi and C.elegans projects.
- Maintain a worldwide catalogue of incoming and outgoing orders for DNA sequencing and Silencing Genomes projects.
- Responsible for delivering processed DNA samples for sequencing to the Woodbury Center.
- Assist educational staff during classroom instruction in the summer sessions. Training of newly hired interns.
-Participate in independent or team projects, mentored by DNALC staff members, which focus on current research.
POSITION REQUIREMENTSPosition Requirements:
EDUCATION : College student pursuant of an undergraduate degree in biology, molecular biology, genetics or related disciplines
EXPERIENCE : Strong interest in Science and research
OTHER : Ability to work a minimum of 8-10 hours a week and at least part-time (20 hours/week) in the summer. Must have reliable transportation to/from the DNALC .
SKILLS : Proficient in bacteriology and sterile techniques is preferred. Proficient in preparing and aliquotting reagents is preferred. Good organizational skills. Experienced in Microsoft Excel and other windows programs is preferred.
