The Corporate Strategy Summer Associate role provides a unique opportunity for high potential MBA students to develop the skills vital for careers within Corporate Strategy & Development at Thermo Fisher Scientific. The internship is led by the Sr. Director of Corporate Strategy with oversight by other senior leaders within Thermo Fisher Scientific.

The Summer Associate will support our long-term corporate strategy development efforts by facilitating the identification of growth drivers and challenges across the Company’s diverse portfolio of businesses. You will work together with colleagues within Strategy & Corporate Development and/or within the businesses and functions, to support, implement, and supervise key strategic projects that have significant impact on the Company. It is crucial that you can build rapport, credibility, trust, and respect throughout the organization, be viewed as a teammate, and can work effectively under pressure and with tight deadlines.

Our Summer Associate program is a 12-week program crafted for MBA students between their 1st and 2nd years of Business School. Summer Associates are matched to one project to work on over the summer based on their abilities, combined with business needs.

What will you do?

Our summer projects are developed by Senior Management and provide participants exposure to daily operations of a Fortune 100 company. You will get additional opportunities to experience our workplace culture with exposure to senior leaders in the organization. To ensure projects are meaningful and meet the needs of our dynamic business, final project assignments will not be resolved until late spring. Summer Associates will be asked to present an end of assignment presentation to their team of colleagues as well as our Senior Leadership Team at the end of their experience, in addition to being evaluated a for a full-time role in Corporate Strategy upon graduation.

The Summer Associate will work as part of a high-profile team responsible for the development and execution of organic and inorganic growth strategies for all Thermo Fisher Scientific business units globally. Additionally, this role will support the corporate strategic goals and process and provide related competitive intelligence for senior management.

Examples of Summer Projects:

• Board of Directors presentation where we explore market adjacencies and company targets as part of our M&A strategy

• Mapping customer needs to our products across innovative market segments

• Exploring whether to enter a new market in a high growth segment, and understand relative strengths of technology platforms

• Preparing executive training session focused on the context and environment for the top 400 company leaders

• Understanding the role of digital and automation across our advanced instruments market segment

Location/Division Specific Information

As a global organization, we have many sites located across the country; this role will be based in Waltham, MA

How will you get here?

• Pursuing an MBA at an accredited higher learning program

• Minimum of 3+ years of relevant work experience prior to business school

• Experience in the following areas is preferred: management consulting, strategic goals/corporate strategy, finance, operations, supply chain, commercial & growth strategy, market research, project management

• Outstanding, exceptional attention to detail

• Takes ownership of assigned projects, handle ambiguity and independently work towards results

• Proven track record to influence across a matrixed organization

• Must be able to work independently as well as in a team

• Strong analytical and written / verbal communication skills including excellent, differentiated facility in Microsoft PowerPoint

• Advanced technical skills within Microsoft Excel

• All candidates must have permanent authorization to work in the United States without restriction

• Willingness to relocate is required

• Requires proof of Covid-19 vaccination
