    Aquatic Chemistry Technician Posted Date 3 days ago (3/9/2018 7:12 AM) Job ID 2018-1877 # Positions 2 Type Temporary Full-Time Location US-OR-Corvallis Security Clearance Level National Agency Check (Client Initiated) Responsibilities Participate as a support chemist in team-oriented research projects related to ecosystem monitoring and assessment on the CSS contract with the US EPA Western Ecology Division in Corvallis, OR. The research incorporates the analysis of surface water, biological tissues, soils, and sediments. Perform the following tasks: 1) routinely receive, log-in, and prepare water samples, including: filtration and preservation, digestions, dilutions, preparation of sample containers, and storage of samples; 2) analyze samples to determine pH, conductivity, turbidity, alkalinity, total suspended solids and color; 3) assist with the analysis of samples using standard operating procedures , 4) prepare and analyze QC, project reference, and performance evaluation samples; 5) maintain laboratory records; 6) enter and process experimental data using Excel; assist with the production of reports of experimental activities, procedures and results; and 7) assist chemists with other tasks as needed, including labware washing and preparation, and laboratory housekeeping. Qualifications Minimum requirements include: 1) two years of college with four completed chemistry courses or a related lab science OR A.A. in chemistry or other directly related field; 2) demonstrated ability to routinely analyze chemical constituents (e.g., total suspended solids, pH, conductivity) of large numbers (greater than 200 samples per month) of samples following standard operating procedures and applying the principles of QA/QC and Good Laboratory Practice; 3) ability to operate in a windows-based computer environment; 4) good written and oral communication skills; and 5) attention to detail. Preferred candidates will be on track to complete a B.S./B.A. in Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, or related chemistry field and have six months or more experience using sample analysis methodologies (e.g., USEPA SOPs). Physical requirements include the ability to: 1) perform normal laboratory tasks in a fast paced environment, which include moderate lifting (20 to 40 lbs); 2) move about freely in a laboratory setting; and 3) work proficiently with computer keyboards and screens.
