SUMMARY OF INTERNSHIP

The Data Science Internship position provides an opportunity for students who are currently pursuing data science, computer science, statistics, or similar degrees to get hands-on experience working with data scientists in a fast-paced analytics team environment. The data science intern will contribute to analytical and machine learning projects and apply best research and design practices. THE POSITION STARTS IN MAY OR JUNE, PAID WORKING 40 HOURS PER WEEK THROUGH AUGUST. An opportunity exists for this position to continue through the academic year on a part-time basis to allow for class schedules.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Provide support to data science projects including analysis, querying, coding, visualization, modeling
• Support a variety of data science activities and may be assigned to a variety of analytic tasks throughout the department
• Be involved with many aspects of model design and evaluation tasks and prove the efficacy of models built in using business-driven measurements.
• Provide feedback on data science approaches and perform peer evaluation
• Learn about data science principles through daily activities.
• Accept candid feedback and look for areas of improvements
• Specific tasks will be tailored to the data science intern’s experience level and abilities
• A data science intern works under the close supervision of data scientists, project managers, analysts, and business leaders

• A student currently enrolled in classes leading to a ABET accredited degree in a data science or related discipline
• Data Science, Statistics, Computer science, or like predictive analytics field
• General business, marketing, or sales knowledge preferred

• Familiarity with of least one software development tool set such as Python, or R
• Aptitude for writing code that visualizes and predicts data from large scale data sets
